Denver might not be in the mountains, but the mountains still dominate the city. The picturesque mountain panorama from Denver is 140 miles long. From the Colorado State Capitol in downtown Denver, there are 200 visible named peaks including 32 that soar to 13,000 feet and above. State law prohibits building any structure that would block the view from the building.
Rocky Mountain National Park is located only an hour and a half drive from Denver. It is home to many natural wonders, wildflowers, crystal-clear lakes, impressive waterfalls, and immense forests. Elks, bighorn sheep, beavers and many other mammals roam freely in this unspoilt environment. Many activities are available, including hiking, climbing, camping, fishing, biking, picnics, and wildlife viewing.
In 2014, National Geographic named Rocky Mountain National Park as one of its best trips in the world.
