2025 is truly a year of celebration in Mississippi!

While the 90th birthday festivities for Elvis continue—especially in Tupelo, which is once again hosting the Elvis Tupelo Festival this June—this year also marks the centennial of B.B. King, the legendary bluesman and guitarist born in Indianola in 1925. It’s the perfect occasion to (re)discover this small Delta town, which has become an essential stop on any musical pilgrimage through the birthplace of American music.

Located halfway between Memphis and Jackson, and not far from the iconic Route 61, you’ll find the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center. The museum offers an immersive experience into the life and career of the musician through exhibitions, archives, and rare videos. While the museum hosts events year-round, it will be especially vibrant in September, the month of B.B. King’s 100th birthday, with a variety of concerts planned.

Additionally, five Mississippi Blues Trail markers are scattered around Indianola. Notably, “B.B. King’s Corner”, where the artist used to perform, and Club Ebony, a historic blues club still in operation that has hosted icons like Ray Charles, James Brown, Howlin’ Wolf, and Ike Turner. Another “blues marker” honors the legacy and influence of Charlie Patton, considered the father of Delta blues, who is buried in Indianola.
