Children and adults alike will enjoy great outdoor opportunities in lesser-known zoological and water parks that offer a relaxing break during a hot summer day such as Zoosiana in Broussard near Lafayette, Audubon Zoo & Aquarium in New Orleans, Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo in Monroe, or Alexandria Zoo and Gone Wild Safari in Alexandria and Pineville respectively.

An immersion in local ecosystems also includes the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road, one of the 150 official U.S. scenic drives and a journey into one of the country’s last great wildernesses. 290 km of trails allow visitors to see alligators and over 400 bird species.
An experience that can be combined with a « Swamp Tour, » in a canoe or a flat-bottomed boat, in a preserved area such as Lake Bistineau State Park near Shreveport, Lake Martin in the Lafayette area, or the majestic Atchafalaya Basin from the city of Henderson.
