Cowboy culture lives on in Arizona, where numerous professional rodeos are held every year. Two of the world’s oldest rodeos have been held here since the 1880s: Prescott, in early July, and Payson, in mid-August. Some rodeos combine cowboy and Native American traditions, such as the Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo & Fair in southern Arizona and the White Mountain Apache Tribal Fair & Rodeo in northern Arizona. An hour north of Phoenix, Wickenburg is the « World’s Team Roping capital » and the ideal base for horseback riding enthusiasts, who can stay at one of three local ranches: Flying E Ranch, Kay El Bar Ranch or Rancho de Los Caballeros.
