Known as “The Secret Coast,” this region of Mississippi truly lives up to its name: an intimate and still-undiscovered destination stretching for over 100 kilometers along the Gulf of Mexico, where peaceful beaches meet lively coastal towns. An ideal seaside escape after a road trip exploring the roots of the blues and of the civil rights movement.
Travelers can now once again discover the coastline by rail. This summer, Amtrak relaunched the “Mardi Gras” line, operating daily between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama. With two departures per day serving four Mississippi Gulf Coast stations, Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula, the route offers a scenic and relaxing way to enjoy the waterfront. Timetables are available on Amtrak’s website.
Each stop features exclusive boutique accommodations for experiencing the coastal way of life, such as The Pearl in Bay-Saint-Louis, the historic White House Hotel in Biloxi or the newly opened Hotel Vela in Gulfport, inspired by the intimate ambiance of 1920s speakeasies.
With its wide range of outdoor activities and unspoiled coastline, Mississippi’s Gulf Coast offers a relaxing escape for all types of travelers.
