On January 8th, Elvis would have blown out his 89th birthday candle.
The future rock’n’roll icon grew up with his parents in modest surroundings in northern Mississippi. Still deeply marked by the young Presley’s story, the charming town of Tupelo has dedicated an « Elvis’ Tupelo Driving Tour » to him – a tourist itinerary that guides fans or curious travelers through the main places that influenced his childhood.
These include Elvis Birthplace, the Johnnie Drives Inn – famous diner where Elvis was a regular, and the Tupelo Hardware Company, where his mother bought him his very first guitar.
To celebrate the King’s birthday, the city has inaugurated a 14th marker in addition to the previous 13: this new stop highlights the former office of Dr. William Robert Hunt, who gave birth to Jesse Garon Presley and Elvis Aaron Presley on January 8th, 1935.
